For a day, let me make a shift from the tiresome and sleep- inducing impeachment trial.
The man who wants something for nothing is a christian.
I don't believe so.
Yet this axiom admittedly is a slap-in-the face of many Pinoys. A truism in the sense that 50 per cent if not majority of the 94 million Pinoy population are in poverty. Dole-outs are the order of the day particularly in areas where so-called informal settlers (squatters) reside. It is not an unusual sight to find people queuing before a truck distributing basic goods - and people asked - 'libre ba? is it free? Scenes not only most common, in times of floods and fires, but any day in more blighted areas.
Though, a slap in the face, an open insult, you and me must bear the pain. I call it a wake-up call, a shot across the bow to Christians that is 80 percent of the 94 million Pinoys.
A failure of Christianity? Not maybe, but the mojority are still snoring away while most Asian neighbors are living comfortably and in a more dignified lifestyle.
My appeal to my fellow Christians, wake up and get real. In school we were taught, "It is better to give than to receive." I am sure I was not absent when our teacher taught us the lesson. Yet, today giving and receiving can become a lively argumentation topic. One may ask, what can I give when I have nothing? That is why by receiving I can have and may still give some of what I receive. A case of the chicken or the egg?
