Everyone wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die. Truly an old saying, but by watching on television the procession of the black Nazarene on its fiesta day in Quiapo, Manila today, where more than six million devotees flocked. Yes of the immense number, six million bigger than the entire population of New Zealand, by official estimate. The majority of the crowd want to be perceived as real devotees. Yet an outsider who was selling bottled water along the road said, " People, people people too many, maybe millions, yet I will bet my balls that I can count by my fingers those who truly confessed to the faith and finally be humble."
With crowds of such magnitude it is by all means difficult and unnecessary to argue, debate or even comment as to who among the great multitude are believers, unbelievers, superstitious 'useseros' and those who just want a fast buck. Let us be reminded that the borderline between religion and superstition is also thin that it is most difficult to define. This is why some rely on the old adage, "if you want to understand what you believe, believe that you understand."
