More on US Ambassador Kristie Kenny and former President Cory
The US Ambassador Kristie Kenny had no doubt former President Cory is the icon of democracy not only in Asia but in the world. Yet she doubted the standard of morality of the late president when she joined the rallies and protests of dubious political figures like the ousted president Erap Estrada against then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo after President Arroyo moved to distribute Hacienda Luisita to the farmers under the Agrarian Reform Law.
Nevertheless, freedom of choice is part of our democratic rights. That when Cory Aquino as a private person chosed her right to join Erap Estrada against GMA was her political right in a democratic, though divided Philippine society. And this act brought her moral leadership in doubt, weak and questionable, if not fake.
It was Jack Kemp, the American star football player and respected political personality in the US Congress who said it nicely. " Democracy without morality is impossible." tnx

Mel, I think you have it mixed up. Cory did not join the rallies after GMA moved to distribute Hacienda Luisita to the farmers. I think it's the other way around. GMA tried to distribute Hacienda Luisita when Cory joined the rally against her regime. GMA was a willy politicians who would allow thievery in her government as long as you didn't go against her. It was the reason why graft and corruption thrived during her watch. GMA, who was an expert in using the carrot and stick technique, was morally bankrupt and is now paying for it. She has met her comeuppance, her karma. Anyway, we can check the facts. I have not been very keen with politics lately. But that's how I see it.
