LP's brightest moments says newspaper headlines
The Liberal Party celebrated its 66th founding anniversary two days ago with President Noy as its guest of honor. There was really not much about his speech as reported as it was more centered on the impeachment of Chief Justice Renato Corona. Pres. Noy merely cited praises for the prosecution team, headed by Neil Tupas for their early gains in the trial but also urged them to improve their legal tactics in their push for the removal of the Chief Justice. Sort of saying, What are we in power for?
Yes, it was then Senate President Jose Avelino who said What are we in power for? He was at the height of his power when the Senate then was dominated by the Liberal party. Avelino was instrumental in the founding of the Liberal Party in the 1940s. But he was also a victim of a Senate coup when then Elpidio Quirino joined forces with the Nationalista Party to oust him. He wasreplaced by Mariano Jesus Cuenco.
Anyway, at that time the word impeachment could only be read in the dictionary. No one dared to care about its importance. Just as the phrases climate change and ozone layers were beyond the wisdom of the then brightest men. It was the time when the smokey mountain was the order of the day that Tondo residents thought it was real hell-fire forever.
Going back to the LP's shinning ,moments, where it is now the majority party in the Lower House of Congress. Its being the majority party does not invoke principles or advocacies but Congressmen from other parties (balimbing) jumped in and join the ruling party not unlike the chattering monkeys swinging from tree to tree depending on wherever the wind blows or where the purse is bigger. If you are an outsider looking in it would seem the Liberals are back with a vengeance. Yet what are they vindictive about?
Gloria Arroyo is a Liberal by origin and Corona is not a politico. Which brings us back to the question, are the issues today on the impeachment trial all about Hacienda Luisita? that the Supreme Court decision be by all means reversed? That with Corona it is impossible.
I talk politics, not really. I am not qualified. It is just important to note that of the 196 countries in the world today it is only in the Philippines that a Chief Justice is on trial on mere allegations of
misdemeanor. Maybe this why they say "Its more fun in the Philippines.
keep reading Its more fun in the Philippine not in Korea,North
